II: Summary
Obama is leading a 2 day meeting in the USA’s capital about security regarding the nuclear situation and what to do to keep these deadly weapons out of the hands of terrorists. As this meeting begins, Obama states that he wants a tighter watch on Iran and their dealing with nuclear supplies. "The central focus of this nuclear summit is the fact that the single biggest threat to U.S. security, both short term, medium term and long term, would be the possibility of a terrorist organization obtaining a nuclear weapon. This is something that could change the security landscape in this country and around the world for years to come. If there was ever a detonation in New York City, or London, or Johannesburg, the ramifications -- economically, politically and from a security perspective -- would be devastating. We know that organizations like al Qaeda are in the process of trying to secure nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction and would have no compunction at using them." Obama said. The president last week signed a treaty with Russia to reduce the amount of nuclear weapons in their stockpiles to make life among Americans/Russians easier and better. Many different countries attended this meeting in hope to make the world a better place. Most would say that this is a good idea and that it will help, but some Republicans see this as a non-working idea to stop this major problem.
III: Reactions
A) I feel that this document relates to the AP World theme Development and interactions of cultures because many different civilizations right now are still developing and they are interacting to make it easier for everyone.
B) There has always been nuclear tension in the world, dropping the “Nuke” in Japan at the end of WWII probably started it and did not help.
C) I would assume that the author is American.
D) I understand that this is an American website and that the author of this article is most likely going to be American, I feel that this article is showing a little amount of favoring of one side because they are just stating the way the American’s feel about this topic and not how other countries feel, they are only saying one side of the story.
E) I feel that the point of view that is missing is the Middle Eastern point of view because they were not stated in the attending countries that went to the summit so they obviously feel differently about this matter.
F) I feel that everyone should just get rid of the nuclear weapons and that they should find a way to create a peace treaty to make this all better.

II. This article is about the very high probability that Al-Qaida or other terrorist groups are attempting to secure nuclear weaponry. Though it is doubtful that Obama's speech at his two day summit where Russia and America are agreeing to go through with some nuclear disarmament will persaude many world leaders to help keep weapons of mass destruction out of terrorist hands, our government does have high hopes for the two day summit.
III.
A. It relates to state-building, expansion and conflict because it is about the struggle of terrorists trying to get nuclear weapons against other groups who are trying to prevent the acquisition.
B. For plenty of years, terrorists have been attempting to get bigger and better weapons. A nuclear weapon is the pinnacle of current weaponry, and with such a weapon, an entire city could be destroyed and its population wiped out, which is why we have always been trying to prevent such weapons to be acquired by terrorists.
C. The author is most likely an employee of Japan Today, so they are probably Japanese or a Japanese citizen.
D. They seem to be supporting anti-terrorist acts, because their tone seems to be that terrorists are a danger to society, and it would be better to limit their ability to commit acts of terror. They also seem to be speaking down on countries with unauthorized nuclear projects, because they imply that such countries will supply terrorists with nuclear weapons.
E. Though the U.S. shows its point of view, views of other countries such as Russia or Israel do not have their's expressed. Hearing from them would help because they may have more experience with dealing with terror groups and groups that supply them with various weapons, so they could know if terrorists are capable of getting/using nuclear weapons.
F. I think it is good that the U.S. is trying to stress the importance of keeping nuclear weapons out of terrorist hands. Hopefully, after the summit, other countries will crack down on black market deals that allow terrorists to get their hands on dangerous weaponry, because they are probably capable of anything, and could easily wreak havoc if no steps are taken to prevent them from acquiring weaponry.

"They're dead, all of them, every single last one." is what scientists are saying, Blue fin tuna are now or will be extinct in a year. The UN for years has refused to place the Blue fin on the endangered species act and now, IT IS TOO LATE. The blue fin tuna will no longer exist in 2011. As you read this the very last one may be being eaten in a seafood restaurant right now. The Blue fin was once a common, abundant, addition to the Mediterranean, but over fishing killed the species. The impact of there disappearance will be felt for years long after the last one is gone. THOUSANDS of other animals will die as a result of overpopulation and underpopulation of the animals that were eaten by and ate the Blue fin. In the summer at the start of the Blue fin fishing season Sea Shepherd will try with every last ounce of energy to stop anyone trying to catch this fish. Unfortunately it is past the point of no return and all they can hope to accomplish is take some of the last surviving 3 or 4,000 there are left and put them in captivity in hopes that DNA maybe preserved and specimens frozen for a potential reintroduction in the future. Good bye Blue Fin... :(.

On January 6th 2010 the "Ady Gil" was rammed by the Shonan Maru #2 a ship several times larger. The resulting collision split the "Ady Gil" in 1/2 and threw the crew of 6 into icy waters off the coast of Antarctica. At those temperatures you slip into a coma in under 10 minuets, you die of hypothermia in under 15. Had another Sea Shepherd ship not been literally several hundred feet away the 6 crew members would have died. Even when it was that close it still took almost 7 minuets to get them out of the water and they could not feel their legs upon returning to the ship. Also the Sea Shepherd ships are only supplied with minor medical equipment and 1 EMT. Had a serious injury occurred that person would die.

Since then, Captain Bethune has boarded and attempted to arrest the captain of the Shonan Maru #2 and charge him with the replacement cost of the "Ady Gil" Just as if someone rammed into your car. However the captain instead had him locked up and took him back to Tokyo where he now awaits trial in a maximum security jail cell. He was then charged with criminal acts!! The man who almost died is now being charged with crimes by the man who he was trying to arrest, the man that almost KILLED him. These charges include: (1) trespass, (2) possession of a weapon (the knife used to cut the net while boarding), (3) alleged injury to a person, (4) property damage, and (5) interference with "normal" business activity. If found guilty he could be faced with years of jail time in a country he is not a citizen of nor ever set foot on. Laws for the US state that a us registered ship is US "soil" and crimes that take place in, on or around US ships are investigated and handled by the Coast guard. JAPAN DOSE NOT HAVE THESE LAWS! The only way this applies is if it is a military vassal. Thus, the only way he can be charged for breaking Japanese laws when he is not a citizen is if that ship is a military ship. That also means that Captain Bethune is now a prisoner of war.(he was arrested on a military ship) The official term the Japanese are using is a "political prisoner" (because New Zealand and Japan are not at war) But if japan and New Zealand are not at war, then what is a military ship doing is New Zealand waters??? That violates like a dozen treaties???????? This whole event is upside down and backwards. You could literally spend years reading all the laws and all the treaties and consult all the experts in both countries it try and straighten this mess out to see who's right. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT IS IMPORTANT!!!!! What is important is IN THE MEANTIME whale these people try to figure this thing out a man is locked up in a jail cell thousands of miles away from his wife and kids, not allowed to make phone calls or read a newspaper or watch TV AND AT THE SAME TIME the man he was trying to arrest is at home, most likely watching his big flat screen on a king size bed. Truly horrible. I support Mr.Bethune. Do YOU???

AB) The reason why we care so much is that New Zealand's culture thinks that whales should not be killed when it is an old and "normal" custom in japan.
AC) The too governments are now having legal battles and conflicts about what areas each of them controls.
AD) The only reason whaling happens in a modern world is because it is profitable and the Sea Shepherds are opposing the practises of a entire industry and their action seriously affect the stock markets of both countries as the corporations they attack are HUGE.
AE) Animal rights activists in places like New Zealand are respected and in some cases looked at as heroes doing what no one else dose because they do what they believe is right and they defend there views. Whalers and people who mistreat animals are looked down upon. (everyone wants to be a vet)
However in Japan whalers are looked at just as the people from "deadliest catch" are looked at in America. Just normal people that have a rarer job that is exiting to watch. And people like animal activists who do stuff like this are seen as just making a guy's job that is hard to begin with harder, when these people are just trying to make a living. The act they are doing that offends so many New Zealenders is "just their job" in Japanese culture. When these to almost opposite pools mix, somewhere down the line someones social status has to change.
B) Japan has been hunting whales for hundreds of years but in a modern age most people agree that it is obsolete and look down upon it but Japan keeps with the tradition.
C and D) The article is written by someone on board the Sea Shepherd ship and is most likely a personal friend of Captain Bethune. He then obviously supports that he should be let go and the replacement cost of his ship paid.
E) The missing side of the story is what the Japanese government has to say about all this? However they do not want to talk to the media at this time.

According to the Interior Ministry’s economic safety department, the cost of an average bribe reached 23,000 rubles ($780) in 2009 from 9,000 rubles in 2008. The ministry recorded 7,856 cases of corruption in 2009, an increase of 10.9 percent from 2008. However, the department has registered a decline in the number of corruption cases since last January, and states that corruption is likely to level off this year.

JJJ. This article refers to the AP World History theme of development and transformation of social structures because it is talking about the Russian government and how it is changing due to new legislation against corruption and how it may change for the better.
KKK. In almost all forms of government, including our own, there has been corruption. Corruption can disrupt the ideals of the government and is a problem that must be taken seriously.
LLL. The article was written by Alex Anishyuk, who is most likely a Russian citizen.
MMM. One must approach this document with caution because it was written by a Russian citizen, and while they may want to reveal the corruption in the government, will try to cover up the worst of it to try to ease the tensions of other Russians.
NNN. It would be helpful to see a statement from the Russian president because he could say what actions are being taken to counter the corruption.
OOO. I think that it is a good sign the Russian government is taking steps to lower its corruption. So far the corruption is lower this year than in 2009, and I would like to see the Russians do all they can to fix it.

As President Obama puts pressure on Israel to stop illegal settlement building in East Jerusalem, one person wonders how, exactly, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will attempt to deal with the problem (as well as with Obama's firm opinions on the matter), because to the author, the usual excuse of claiming that "their fragile coalition government will collapse if they make the compromises the US is asking for," won't work for Israel this time.
III.) A.) Conflicts, obviously. They like to report that in the news... Maybe environment, if that's why the U.S. is upset about the building of these settlements in Israel in the first place.
B.) I've sort of heard that recently, Israel and the United States have gotten to be a bit at odds with each other, whether over illegal settlements and whatnot, among perhaps other things. Tensions with Israel are adding to the tensions already existing within the Middle East.
C.) Surprisingly (for me), the article is actually written by [presumably] a woman named "Sherine Tadros," reporting from Jerusalem itself. At first I kind of thought that maybe she was one of those international travelling reporters, but her name seems more foreign to me, even among some of the other Middle Eastern, Iraqi, etc. ones.
D.) Sherine is very optimistic about Obama's determiniation to stand firm on his views until the very end, though she seems to imply that the Israelis have been making a few mistakes in their decision-making lately (ie.- becoming a bit too right-wing and / or not having former Foreign Relations Minister Tzipi Livni and Kadima in on the problem.)
E.) The point of view in this article comes mostly from the author of the article (it even goes so far to say so at the bottom...!) However, there are still a few factual non-quote items that came from quotes ("Meanwhile, Palestinians do not quite share my optimism on Obama's determination," "Others still say they are afraid of this crossroad in Israeli-US relations," etc.) and a singular, standalone quote from a Palestinian landlord. There aren't any quotes from Netanyahu or Obama, though.

On March 24th a runaway freight train crashed into the industrial port in Oslo, Norway. 3 people were injured and 3 peopled were killed due to the crash. No one knew what the reason for the crash was and who did it.

B) The historical background of this issue is unclear in the article.
C) This article is written by an Aljazeera outsider. In this article we also heard from the spokeswoman from the site of the crash.
D) There is no evidence of bias in this article. The writer is just explaining what happened so that readers can understand.

On March 24th a runaway freight train crashed into the industrial port in Oslo, Norway. 3 people were injured and 3 peopled were killed due to the crash. No one knew what the reason for the crash was and who did it.

Bin Laden has recently revealed a brief 74 second audio recording on Thursday, in which he threatens to kill any captured Americans if the United States executes the mastermind of the 9/11 attack and/or any other al-Qaida suspects. The United States did not know if al-Qaida had any US captives at the time until they released a video of the captive in December. The United States still does not know what their decision will be about whether to put Khalid Sheik Mohammed and four of his fellow plotters on military tribunal due to their 9/11 attack roles or not. Bin Laden has claimed that President Obama is following the footsteps of George W Bush by escalating the war in Afghanistan and being unjust to al-Qaida prisoners. In 2008, the US charged Mohammed with murder and war crimes in connection with the Sept. 11 attacks. Pentagon officials have said they'll seek the death penalty.

A) This article relates to the AP World theme of state-building, expansion and conflict because there is conflict between the US and al-Qaida. This conflict is related to multiple events that all have to do with the September 11 attacks in 2001.
B) Ever since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, the US had been trying their hardest in finding the people guilty of the bombing. They have found multiple suspects and have brought them into custody. But, when word about the captives got out to Bin Laden, he wanted to protect his country. He did this by sending multiple threats he will carry out if the United States reveals any information about the captives. Arguments have been going back and forth for about 8-9 years now.
C) This article was written by the Chinese agencies (a group of people that work for this Chinese paper).
D) The point of view of this article does not appear to be questionable at all. The problem is explained in full with statements coming from both the United States and al-Qaida. No side seems to be favored and/or supported over the other.
E) I would like to hear from an American representative. This would help me with my understanding for the article because I would like to know what the United States in planning on doing with the captives. I know that Mohammed is sentenced to death but that would mean that the US captive would also be killed. So is Mohammed’s death sentence just a threat or is the Obama’s plan.
F) I think that the 9/11 attackers should be punished due to their actions and al-Qaida should understand that their actions should be punished and they should stop sending threats to the United States. Also I believe that they should free the United States captive because he did not do anything wrong. He was just trying to protect the land. But, on the other hand, the 9/11 captives should stay as a captives because they did do something wrong. They had killed many innocent people and damaged the Unites States greatly for their own selfish reasons. Bin Laden is only trying to protect his people even though he knows they had done wrong; he just does not want to admit it.
